JUPAS

JUPAS stands for "Joint University Programmes Admissions System". The scheme is for local secondary school students applying for admission to 3-year curriculum / 4-year curriculum of

  1. government-funded full-time or sandwich bachelor's degree programmes offered by CityU, HKBU, LingnanU, CUHK, HKIEd, PolyU, HKUST and HKU;
  2. government-funded full-time associate degree programme offered by CityU;
  3. government-funded full-time higher diploma programme offered by HKIEd;
  4. government-funded full-time higher diploma programmes offered by PolyU; and
  5. non-government-funded full-time bachelor's degree programmes offered by OUHK.

on the strength of results obtained at the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) or the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE).

3-year Curriculum (HKALE)    4-year Curriculum (HKDSE)

More places for 2012:

For 2012 only, there will be a SIGNIFICANTLY increased number of places at HKU for ALL of the following groups of applicants:

1. Local JUPAS HKALE students
2. Local JUPAS HKDSE students
3. Local non-JUPAS students
4. International students
5. Mainland students

This increase comes about because:

(a) there are no EAS students to take up places in 2012
(b) there are more places allocated by the UGC for HKU in 2012
(c) there is essentially only one cohort of non-JUPAS students; the places for successful non-JUPAS applicants can be shared across the 3-year curriculum and the 4-year curriculum, leaving more places in each for JUPAS applicants (even if the total non-JUPAS numbers, added across the two curricula, are increased).

For these reasons, the increase in places for HKU is likely to be greater than that of other universities.

In some degree programmes, the number of places available for 2012 will be more than twice that of 2011.  For any one degree programme, the increase in places will be similar across the five groups of applicants above.
