Best in Asia, 2012 HKU continues to be ranked as the Best University in Asia by QS
Sep 12, 2012
QS World University Rankings 2012.
QS announced in September 2012 that HKU had been ranked in their World University Rankings as 23rd best in the world. The University scored 100% for its International Faculty, and above 99% for its Academic Reputation and International Students, all percentages being referenced to world standards. HKU has continued, as in all previous years since the split from the Times Higher Education Rankings, to be the highest ranked university in Asia.
Professor John Spinks, Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University, said, "It is important that HKU benchmarks itself against leading universities from around the world, as a way of ensuring that it continues to offer our students, both local and international, the best education according to global standards. The QS World University Rankings are one way of doing this benchmarking. They allow us to identify areas that need more attention in the University as we continue to move forward, even though we may be ranked as one of the top 25 universities in the world and best in Asia. It is important to note that rankings, such as QS's, are just one way of measuring performance of universities, and every person will have a different set of criteria, and weightings of those criteria, by which to assess different universities that they are considering for applications. Some would go further and argue that universities are too complex to measure using a set of simple statistics. From this perspective, it is pleasing to note that HKU scored over 99% when assessed by academics around the world."
