·   CCGL9028 Gender, Health, and Globalization

Shanghai Jiao Tong University

·   CCGL9001 Hong Kong Cinema through a Global Lens

In addition to the course itself, there may also be excursions to cultural sites and businesses, depending on the type of course offered. These experiential learning opportunities in the host cities will enable you both to earn Common Core credits and to build familiarity with the Mainland cities, culture, and universities. There would also be a Student Learning Festival in the last week of teaching in Hong Kong to celebrate and showcase your work.

Students taking courses of CLASS will stay on the campus of the host Universities while in Mainland during July 8 – 21, 2019.

For detailed course information, please visit https://commoncore.hku.hk/2019/02/common-core-courses-on-offer-in-the-2019-summer-semester/.

Eligibility

  1. The courses of CLASS will be conducted in an intensive mode in which students would be able to complete a 6-credit course in 3 weeks. You are thus allowed to take ONLY ONE of these courses, as they will have teaching scheduled at the same time resulting in a timetable clash.
  2. Since the summer semester is optional, you can take CC courses in the summer even if you have already successfully completed 24 credits of CC courses during the first and second semesters this year.  Please note, however, that (i) the UG5 graduation requirement to successfully complete 36 credits of courses in the CC comprising at least one and not more than two courses from each AoI still applies; and (ii) CC courses cannot be taken as free electives. If you have been granted Advanced Standing and/or Credit Transfer for CC credits and are in doubt as to how many CC credits or courses from which AoI(s) you are required to complete for fulfilling the graduation requirement on the CC, please consult your home Faculty.
  3. Applicants should possess valid travelling document and/or entry permit for entering Mainland China.

Requirement

Participants should guarantee full participation in the Programme.

Programme Fee

  1. Funding will be available to support their visit, which includes costs of on-campus accommodation and airport transfer.
  2. Participants are responsible for other expenses, including but not limited to the transportation to the Mainland host institution, travel insurance, souvenirs, and meals.
  3. HKU will provide basic overseas travel insurance to participants who are successfully nominated by Common Core Office. Participants are strongly recommended to make extra travel insurance arrangement according to individual needs, especially for those who wish to advance or extend their stay in the destination(s). For the university coverage, please refer to the policy for undergraduates and postgraduates provided by Finance and Enterprise Office for reference.
