Information Day 2012 Highlights

The Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2013 held on November 10th, kicked off with a vibrant Opening Ceremony that featured a bagpipe procession, the famous HKU100 ball and throngs of faculty and students alike moving across the campus from Happy Park to the newly-minted Centenary Campus.

Record levels of visitors, including excited high school students, parents and counsellors, had the opportunity to explore HKU, from attending faculty admissions talks and visiting programme booths to talking to HKU student ambassadors and professors. Visitors also received valuable hands-on experience of the state-of-the-art facilities and technology-rich learning spaces that enhance our students’ intellectual pursuits.

An overseas delegation of high school counsellors, principals and representatives of government sponsorship bodies, attended a talk by 4 international students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Finland and Bangladesh. The sharing session enabled the delegation to actively engage with the students and the lively discussion covered a diverse range of topics including the students’ reasons for coming to Hong Kong and their life on campus. They shared about what it means to be a part of the global-minded HKU community; from internships in Ghana and study trips to the Silk Road to building schools in rural China.

The sharing session also included a video of 4 non-local HKU graduates that have taken up employment in Hong Kong. They described the advantages that their holistic education at HKU provided them in the job market and reflected on the high level of job aptitude and reliability to perform that employers expect from HKU graduates. The University offers numerous opportunities for students to explore different career options and the graduates emphasised the need to take the initiative to network with the employers that visit the campus. According to one graduate, the greatest thing gained from HKU was the ability to reinvent oneself.
