Japanese Teppanyaki at HKU

The newly renovated Chong Yuet Ming (CYM) Canteen has certainly caught our attention with its sizzling hot addition, the “Japanese Style Pepper Teppanyaki”. The joy of being able to cook and mix your own food on a hotplate explains the snakingly long queue for this Japanese delight (which went beyond the canteen entrance). Some students even risked being late for their class to try this new dish at HKU. Up till now, the queue has not subsided yet. People are still charmed by this steamy and smoky teppanyaki.

For lunch, they are available from 11:15 to 14:15, while for dinner, 17:45 to 21:00. Six choices are available for us to choose from: fresh salmon, roasted fish & seafood, roasted fish & beef, fried egg & pork burger, beef in black pepper sauce and chicken with cheese & black pepper – all accompanied with a generous serving of rice, sweet corn, green bean and their signature sauce. The price is definitely a steal, ranging from $33-36!

If you seek healthier options like myself, you could choose their salmon rice teppanyaki. While, if you are meat lovers, you should definitely try their fried egg and ginormous pork burger. The pork burger oozes with tenderness and flavour.

Are you discouraged by the long queue? Come for dinner instead! Otherwise, go with a friend who can queue for the food, while you are queuing to place and pay for the order. It will save a lot of time!
